Episode: 'Keep Calm and Flutter On'

If you become a fan of the My Little Pony fandom, the first thing fans will tell you is either who their favorite character is or what do you like about it. For most fans,the one answer you will get for who's their favorite character is Discord, the God of Chaos,voiced by John de Lancie,the actor who played 'Q' on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

For background information,Discord first appeared in the first episode of Season 2,"The Return of Harmony". Being the embodiment of chaos, he attempted to break the Mane Six apart, but failed. He later on became one of the most famous villains of the series, as well causing de Lancie to become involved in the Brony Fandom.

So fans were excited to finally learn that Discord was coming back this season, and awaited his return in the show.And to our surprise, this episode shows his return.

The results:

PERFECT.

Critiques

There isn't really any complaints to this episode, other than the usual 'Rushed in' idea, but again, it's a twenty-six minute series and hard to make a normal episode without it becoming a two-parter.

I would make a point about Rainbow Dash's constant complaints about how Fluttershy considers Discord a friend, but I can't really say much about that since, it's understandable. The events of 'The Return to Harmony' left a sort-of mark on the girls, showing their darker sides and almost causing them to abandon their friendship (and the fanbase did end up doing story interpretations on their emotions following Discord's corruption to them.).

Other than that, the episode itself was good and there wasn't anything that made me go "Oh WHAT NO!".

Praises

This episode really encases Fluttershy and Discord's relationship perfectly,showing her have so much patience for a character who wants to take advantages of it, but eventually warms up to her when he realizes she sees him as a friend.

Discord, as always, is hilarious with his chaotic powers and how he uses them. The scene where he ate the 'Reformation Spells' Twilight was going to use was brilliant and just had me laughing the whole time, as well as how he trolled the girls and even showed no intimidation to Fluttershy's 'Stare' trick.

de Lancie truly knows how to put emotion into the character and always seems to have fun with it, plus the third act probably was the best scene of the episode, showing Discord how he at first, did not care how Fluttershy felt on how he used her to reject her element, but when he realized he lost Fluttershy as his only friend, he finally submitted into reforming and becoming an associate to Celestia.

Applejack's confrontation with the Beaver just made me chuckle, especially at the what could have been 'profanity' heard by Fluttershy.

It can be also seen that there was a sort of...'Alice in Wonderland' reference in Fluttershy's cottage when the ManeSix go to her home for a dinner party with Discord.

Also, is it me, or did Celestia INTENTIONALLY leave the girls Discord so he could cause all this chaos?

...Trollestia is at it again, I presume!

Final Thoughts

In retrospect, this episode is fairly the best one out of the season, not because Discord makes a comeback, but because we see a different side of him. I may be over-analyzing this, but we can see maybe Discord was just lonely and caused chaos to heal that wound, and when we saw Fluttershy accept him as a friend, it changed his perspective on those feelings.

But that's just a metal-head brony's perspective.

We'll be expecting Fluttershy-Discord pictures, I can assure that!
