Month of Ypres: Shards of Love

I did this a waaaay while back as a FB profile image, so I figured why not?

I took this Applejack vector and combined it with a lamp post vector from this pack (the third one to be exact) with a nature-like background. The reason to make it look like this is based on the actual image of Woods of Ypres's vocalist/leader David Gold for the band. Being a black and white image as well, I tried to make it look presentable in the black and white format, all while blurring the image in the background. As for the dark shadows on AJ's face, I used a video tutorial on shadows/highlights. It's not perfect, but it works good enough in a sense. I then used the Woods of Ypres logo, enlarged it, and then gave it a small glow.

I did this one (and a more difficult one a while back) as my own way to show my love of Woods of Ypres, a band that hits the emotional points due to Gold's lyrics of depressive beauty, the nature of the world around him, the adversity of life, and of course, a nod to Canada, where he was from. "Month of Ypres" is also a tribute to his departure, something that even so in 2011 still hits fans hard knowing how young he was, and how despite his somewhat somber look on life, he was still a loving and kind person.

As he once said in the song "The Will to Give":

"There is no destination. Only the journey."
